Mokkamestarit are presenting a new revolutionary coffee from Kenya, supporting smallfarmers in Ndaroin, Nyer Province, who are beginning to change their old, unfair pricing power structures.
Kenyan coffees are highly appreciated by coffee professionals and enthusiasts around the world for their unique taste profiles. However, the development since the 1988 poor harvest to this day has been sad; coffee quality and yields have fallen significantly, which has made it ever more difficult to find high quality Kenyan specialty coffees.
Mokkamestarit's partner, Dutch green coffee supplier Trabocca, led by brave innovator Menno Simons and his team, have begun to investigate the reasons behind this development and have decided to do something about it. In Kenya, coffee farmers have become accustomed to low prices, delayed payments and other legal setbacks that have begun to make production impossible. They are battling multinational enterprises and cartels, which are unfairly suppressing the prices.
Mokkamestarit, through Trabocca, are joining a supply chain that offers a fair price for coffee and an upfront payment that will guarantee the farmer and his family financial survival through harvest and processing, and possibly even enable the development of coffee production at their farms.
Consumers can influence this change by purchasing coffee from roasting companies, which are committed to the change and have decided to roast and sell this top-notch and great-tasting specialty coffee to their customers.
